Sustainability

Sustainability Initiatives

At Karnataka Rehabilitation Centre (KRC), we are deeply committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Our goal is to create a self-sufficient, eco-friendly community that not only supports the well-being of our residents but also contributes positively to the environment. Here are the key components of our sustainability initiatives:

Organic Farming

We practice organic farming to produce healthy, chemical-free food for our community. By avoiding synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, we ensure that our crops are safe and nutritious. Organic farming helps maintain soil health, promotes biodiversity, and reduces pollution. Our farms are a source of fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs, contributing to the overall health and well-being of our residents.

Solar Energy

Harnessing the power of the sun, we have integrated solar energy solutions to meet our electricity needs. Solar panels installed across our campus generate clean, renewable energy, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and minimizing our carbon footprint. Solar energy is a sustainable and cost-effective way to power our facilities, ensuring a reliable energy supply while protecting the environment.

Rainwater Harvesting

To conserve water and reduce our dependency on external water sources, we have implemented rainwater harvesting systems. These systems capture and store rainwater, which is then used for irrigation, cleaning, and other non-potable purposes. Rainwater harvesting helps us make efficient use of natural water resources, especially during dry seasons, and promotes water sustainability.

Water Recycling

Water is a precious resource, and at KRC, we are committed to using it wisely. Our water recycling systems treat and repurpose wastewater for various uses around our campus. By recycling water, we significantly reduce waste and conserve fresh water for essential needs. This initiative not only supports environmental sustainability but also ensures a steady supply of water for our community.

Composting & Waste Management

Effective waste management is crucial for maintaining a clean and healthy environment. At KRC, we practice composting to recycle organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. This compost is then used to enrich our gardens and farms, closing the loop on organic waste and reducing landfill burden. Additionally, we have robust waste management practices to segregate, recycle, and properly dispose of non-organic waste, ensuring minimal environmental impact.
